Online Class | Week 2 | Day 5 | Possessive Pronouns

Like yesterday, today's class started a bit late as the teacher waited for other students to come in to Zoom. When all the students are in, the teacher lead the class in prayer and greeted everyone 'Good morning!'. I once again heard the rooster sounding off from other participant's audio.

The class officially started with a lively song to pump up the kids.

Then the teacher reviewed the students with last session's topic, Pronoun. They also checked their homework which I forgot to attend to. I had to scramble a bit to open the word document and had my kid answer his homework, which he was able to finish quickly.

Their main topic today was about Possessive Pronouns.

My, Mine
His, Her,
Their, Theirs
Your, Yours

The students were taught how to properly use possessive pronouns and after which they had a short activity where they have to identify which possessive pronoun to use in each sentence.

Online classes will not be complete without technical errors. When the teacher's Zoom account experienced an issue and was dropped from the session, the students just simply carried on, it's like a new world has presented itself, suddenly it got loud and noisy when the students started talking all at the same time, making funny sounds and saying whatever comes to mind. When the teacher got back online, they continued with the activity and wrapped up.

Online Class | Week 2 | Day 4 | Math | Quiz

The class started a bit late today to wait for other students to get in Zoom. When everyone is finally on board the teacher begins leading the students in prayer and greeting one another ‘good morning!’. They followed with a math song to further awaken the kids to get their heads on the game, after which they reviewed past topics like addition and subtraction.

As were announced last Tuesday, they will going to have a quiz today, Thursday. The first part of the quiz was for students to identify if the statements shown on the screen is True or False. They wrote down their answers on a piece of paper.

The next part of the quiz were about counting numbers, addition and subtraction. The answers written on a sheet paper will be photographed and we will send the photo to their teacher.

Funny sound I heard from other participant’s audio today was a rooster. ‘Tiktilaok!’, the rooster sounded off several times.

Online Class | Week 2 | Day 3 | English | Pronouns

The class started with a prayer. Then they sang ‘Happy Birthday’ for their classmate who turned 7. Then they check their home work.

The main topic today is about pronoun. A pronoun is a word that is used in place of a noun. The teacher discussed the types of pronouns together with examples.

I - is used when a person is referring to him or herself.
He - used for referring to males.
She - used for referring to females.
It - used for referring to animals or things.
We - used when talking about people along with ourselves.
You - used when referring to other person.
They - used when talking about other people, animals or things.

Then it is followed with an activity where students were shown photos and they were to identify the correct pronoun to use referring to the photos. On the second activity, the students were given random words and they were to group them according to the type of pronoun they belong. On the third activity, the students were given specific words and they were to identify the correct pronoun for each word. On the fourth activity the students were asked to read a sentence and identify the pronouns in the sentence. A group picture concludes today’s class.

Online Class | Week 2 | Day 2 | Math | Subtraction

Today’s class started with a prayer. It is very important to ask for God’s guidance before starting any activity. Then the class warms up with a short math song followed by a long review of last session’s topic which was about counting numbers and addition. Those who were able to answer the questions gets to have a ‘Magaling Clap’ from the class. Then they check their homework. Some students were not able to work on their assignment though.

The main topic was about subtraction. Minuend, the bigger number, followed by the minus sign, then followed by subtrahend, the smaller number, followed by the equal sign and followed by the difference, the answer. Then, they went through an answering activity where objects were used to represent the numbers to be subtracted. They also went through the vertical and horizontal way of subtracting numbers.

When students were asked to show their answer to the camera, my kid noticed that the numbers were shown backwards, so he made an initiative to write the numbers down backwards so that when it is shown in the camera the numbers will look correct.

On Thursday, they will have a quiz. We got some reviewing to do later.

Online Class | Week 2 | Day 1 | Story Telling

In today's class, it was about story telling and comprehension.

As the class begins, the teacher encountered a bit of issue with her headset. Every time she speaks, the participants hear static noises. After a while, the teacher decided to just use the laptop's integrated mic and speaker. Did some testing and her line now sounds really clear.

The title of her story is 'Ang Itim na Kuting' (The Black Kitten). The name of the kitten is Ignacia. Ignacia is sad because nobody wants to adopt her because people has a belief that black cats brings bad luck. People shoos her away and so on. If you haven't read this story before, click the image below to read the full story at ChildrensLibrary.Org.

After the story telling, the teacher asked the students some questions to check if they understand the moral of the story. One I remembered was 'Is it right to judge people or animal base on skin color?". The students answered that it is not right and the teacher further explained to them to treat everyone equally and to treat everyone with kindness.

Then they proceeded to watch a couple of short videos, the first one is about an old lady in the train station. The second one is about a puppy. The videos individually encourage the students to show kindness to animals and people and to not judge people.

They wrap up by making a drawing of their favorite pet. Those that doesn't have pet were asked to draw their favorite toy. My kid doesn't own a pet, so he draw his favorite toy, a Nintendo Switch, where he plays a lot of Minecraft, Mario Smash Bros. and Pokemon. Then they posed for a group picture together with their drawings.

After which the teacher proceeds with a new topic which was about plural and singular nouns. The teacher gave many examples of singular nouns and how to make them into plural nouns by changing the spelling.

Then the students were given an activity, they were shown new examples of singular nouns and now they were asked to make them into plural nouns. One by one the students were able to correctly answer. They confirmed that today’s topic was easy when the teacher asked them. Today’s class is a wrap up for week 1. Week 2 begins on Monday. I observed that the students are enjoying the online class setup.

Online Class | Day 3 | Math

On day 3 of my kid’s online class, things starts with an opening prayer then they discussed about addition and counting numbers. What are addends, plus sign and sum. The teacher also taught them how to add numbers vertically using columns (ones & tens) followed by a short answering activity. Then they moved to counting numbers. They were shown a grid of numbers, 1 to 50, with empty random boxes between numbers. For example, in the first row there are five boxes. The students have to answer what comes after number 1, number 4 and so on.

 1  3 4
  7  9

My son keeps asking me, “How much longer the class will finish?”. I answered,  “11:30.”. He is so excited about his newly created YouTube channel. Yesterday he asked me to assist him to upload his very first Roblox video. He was shouting with excitement yesterday after he got his very first subscriber and had few video views. He told me and his mom, “Please subscribe to my YouTube channel, hit Like, hit the notification bell and add a comment please.”. When he got his 2nd subscriber, he went really crazy shouting and jumping as if he was awarded with the YouTube Golden Button. If you would be so kind please subscribe to his channel it means the world to him. Here is the link:

Online Class | Day 2 | English (Nouns)

In today’s online class the topic in English subject was about nouns which describes the name of person, places, things, etc.

I haven’t heard of these things in ages. It reminds me of my elementary school in Pasay City, Southeastern College. My class adviser was Mrs. Montas, section Anonas. I was in the afternoon class. Enough of my history.

Many kids attended the online class today. Some kids are the quiet type, no reaction, just staring at the screen watching other kids. Some kids love making crazy facial expressions while watching themselves on the screen. Some kids love to observe, my kid specifically noticed and asked me, “Why is my classmate’s name iPad? And the principal’s name iPhone 2113? Why?”. He is referring to the name indicated on each participant’s video. I answered, “They forgot to correctly type in their name.”.

The teacher started the class with a prayer then followed by checking of attendance. The class ends after 1 hour.

Here’s what the teacher discussed. Types of noun.

1. Common noun

Person (mother, teacher, doctor, etc.)
Place (hospital, park, market, etc.)
Things (shampoo, toothpaste, soda, etc.)
Animals (dog, cat, fish, etc.)

2. Proper noun

Person (Mr. Pierre, Mrs. Rogan, Ms. Santos, etc.)
Place (Marikina City, Luneta Park, Savemore Market, etc.)
Things (Colgate Toothpaste, Pantene Shampoo, Coke, etc.)
Animals (Bones the Dog, Kitty the Cat, etc.)
